KBRN, Jakarta: State owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) reaffirms its commitment to travel safety through the certification of operational personnel. This certification ensures that all staff meet the competency requirements in accordance with government railway regulations.

"Safety is KAI's top priority," PT KAI's Vice President of Public Relations for KAI, Anne Purba, said in a statement received on Sunday, April 27, 2025, as reported by rri.co.id.

She added that this certification is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to ensuring that train journeys are safe and secure.

The certified operational officers encompass various critical roles, including train drivers (masinis), station masters (PPKA), train dispatchers (PPKT), train conductors (PAP), train attendants (PRS), track inspectors (PLR), level crossing keepers (PPKP), and crossing guards (PJL).

These essential personnel are responsible for maintaining the smooth operation and safety of train travel across the entire network.

As of March 2025, a significant 9,456 officers, representing 95 percent of the operational staff, have already obtained official certification. The remaining 486 officers, approximately 5 percent, are currently in the process of submitting their certification applications to the Directorate General of Railways.

"This certification serves as proof of the government's recognition of the competence of KAI officers," explained Anne Purba. Every officer is required to meet the competency standards to perform their duties in safeguarding travel safety.

Specifically for train driver positions, 3,931 out of 4,193 individuals, or 94 percent, have been certified to date. The remaining 262 individuals are new trainee drivers undergoing intensive training.

Before commencing their duties, train drivers are mandated to undergo an assessment by a supervisor to verify the validity of their certification. If the certification expired, the train driver is prohibited from working until it is renewed, ensuring operational safety.

All operational officers, without exception, are also required to participate in periodic competency tests. This ensures their continuous understanding and adherence to procedures in accordance with prevailing regulations.

KAI is committed to enhancing the quality of its human resources through ongoing training and national certification programs. "Safety remains our utmost priority to ensure the security and comfort of our train passengers," concluded Anne. ***
