KBRN, Banda Aceh: The final section of the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road in Aceh will begin functioning, Monday (24/3/2025). This marks a significant milestone as the first toll road in Indonesia’s westernmost province nears completion.

Section 1 of the toll road, connecting Seulimeum in Aceh Besar Regency to Padang Tiji in Pidie Regency, will operate from Monday until April 10. According to Hutama Karya, the state-owned construction company behind the project, this move anticipates an increase in traffic during the 2025 Eid homecoming and return flow.

The section will be open daily from morning to evening, following a two-way traffic scheme that allows vehicles to travel between Seulimeum and Padang Tiji. However, it will only be accessible to class I vehicles (non-buses), such as private cars and small vehicles.

“We are ensuring the readiness of various supporting facilities, including more frequent patrols, additional signs, and coordination with the police and related agencies,” said Hutama Karya official Adjib Al Hakim.

This statement was made in a release, Saturday (22/3/2025), quoted by Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.

Branch manager Totok Masyadi mentioned several steps have been taken to enhance traveler comfort on the toll road. For instance, rest areas with amenities like gas stations and small business kiosks have been prepared for motorists.

“Our rest areas are equipped with adequate public facilities, and we plan to offer 24-hour services at several locations,” Masyadi explained in an interview with RRI Banda Aceh, Monday (17/3/2025).

The Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road is part of the larger Trans-Sumatra Toll Road, linking Banda Aceh in the north to Bandar Lampung in the south. This 2,818 km expressway connects major Sumatra cities, including Medan, and offers access to the Port of Bakauheni in Lampung, where drivers can continue on the Trans-Java Toll Road via ferry.

The 74.2 km Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road consists of six sections, connecting Banda Aceh to Sigli in Pidie Regency. The sections have been gradually opened, with the first section launched in 2020.
