KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises MSMEs) have played a very fundamental role as drivers of the Indonesian economy. Indonesian Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri revealed it when she signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the development and empowerment of export-ready Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) in Jakarta, Monday (24/2/2025).

“This sector contributes 61 percent or Rp9,580 trillion to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” said Roro, as quoted from her official statement.

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises according to Dyah Roro, play a role in job creation and contribute to the unemployment rate in Indonesia. The Ministry of Trade continues to encourage the increase in MSMEs' marketability through export product development, business capacity building, and export markets.

Roro added that the Ministry of Trade also continues to boost the competitiveness of MSMEs through three main pillars, namely export product development, business development, and export market development. These three pillars are then translated into various forms of activities, including various export trainings, design clinics, trade promotions, and business matching.

“These efforts are made to increase the contribution of MSMEs in supporting the achievement of the national export growth target of 7.1 percent this year,” said Roro.

Roro also revealed that the Ministry of Trade continues to build synergies with various stakeholders to strengthen the export ecosystem, including the Ministry of SOEs as a strategic partner in accelerating MSMEs to become competitive exporters.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of SOEs Kartika Wirjoatmodjo expressed her appreciation for the synergy with the Ministry of Trade, especially to further make Indonesia's MSMEs go global.

“We, at the Ministry of SOEs, appreciate the effective collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, especially to further make our MSMEs 'go global'. This is in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's direction. If so far, SOEs have paid great attention to MSMEs from financing facilitation to market access, cooperation with the Ministry of Trade will make MSME networks more competitive and 'go international',” Tiko said.
