KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has officially changed the term 'New Student Admission' (PPDB) to 'New Student Admission System' (SPMB) for elementary and secondary school enrollments, starting from the 2025/2026 academic year.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti said that the change aims to improve several shortcomings in the PPDB system.
He said SPMB is his ministry's commitment to provide the best education services for all.
“There are several shortcomings in the old system (PPDB) that we need to improve,” Minister Mu'ti said in a press statement after conducting a public consultation forum on a draft ministerial regulation in Jakarta on Thursday, January 30, 2025, as quoted by rri.co.id.
He added that the change in the new student admission system is also aligned with the ministry's vision, which is providing a good quality education for all.
Minister Mu'ti said that the change from PPDB to SPMB is not just a change in the term but there is indeed something new in it. “This is to ensure that every Indonesian citizen gets the best education service,” he said.
The SPMB 2025 recognizes four new student admission pathways. They are:
1. Domicile-based
2. Affirmation-based
3. Mutation-based
4. Achievement-based. ***
