KBRN, Tangerang: Floods has inundated eight subdistricts in Tangerang Regency, Banten, affecting 5,535 households. The majority of the affected areas, submerged in floodwater by up to one meter deep, are located within the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 project.
“Before the PIK 2 project is there, even heavy rains did not flood us this deep. Many catchment areas have disappeared now due to being filled in,” said Dullah, a resident of Kronjo subdistrict, Tangerang Regency, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, rri.co.id reported.
Apart from the heavy rainfall, the floods were also attributed to the overflowing of rivers that traverse Tangerang Regency.
Ujat Sudrajat, Head of the Tangerang Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), confirmed that thousands of houses in regency had been affected by the floods for two days on Wednesday. The flooded residential areas spanned across eight subdistricts.
“Five of the subdistricts are located on the North Coast of Tangerang Regency. They are Kronjo, Mauk, Sepatan, East Sepatan, Pakuhaji, and Kosambi subdistricts,” he said.
Ujat added that the depth of the floodwater ranged from knee-deep to one meter deep. Other subdistricts affected by the flood include Pasar Kemis, Rajeg, and Gunung Kaler.
“There are at least 5,535 families affected by the flood. Some of them were forced to evacuate,” he added.
Agun Guntara, Head of the Fire and Rescue Division at the Tangerang Regency BPBD, said that the flood in Pasar Kemis and Rajeg subdistricts resulted from a broken embankment. However, the most severe flood occurred in Duta Bandara Permai Housing complex in Kosambi Subdistrict.
“There are 2,500 households in the Community Unit (RW) 09 to 13 that were affected by the flood," said Agun, adding that in Gelam Jaya Village's Community Unit (RT) 01 RW 015, Pasar Kemis Subdistrict, the flood affected 410 families. ***
