RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Student designers from the Fashion Program at BINUS University in Jakarta, have presented their collections on the international stage at the Hong Kong Centerstage Exhibition and a featured fashion show titled Roots to Rhythm in Hong Kong.
The international showcase served as a practical platform for student designers, including Kayleen Natasha Lukito, Faiza Khashia Latifa Buwono, Shahraz Qabila Parsa, Yiesha Akiela Martiza, Faeyza Dima Kamila, Maesya Aliya Raisabela, Shanelle Callista Hendra, and Naomi Hilya Kartika, to interact directly with global fashion industry professionals.
At the exhibition, students presented collections exploring diverse cultural concepts, materials, and subcultures, with titles such as La Città di Smeraldo, Barnacles, Peranakan Chinese Betawi, RE.ORD, Musubi, Hua, Linked, RAW: Jamet Subculture, Accordion Bloom, Flesh & Form, Bound & Becoming, Rebloom, Intersect, and La Brezza.
The accompanying Roots to Rhythm fashion show translated Indonesian cultural heritage and environmental inspirations into contemporary high-fashion silhouettes, illustrating BINUS University's educational model of merging academic rigor, creative exploration, and international market exposure.
Head of the Fashion Program at BINUS University Ratna Dewi Paramita highlighted the strategic importance of international exposure for young talent.
"We want to empower a new generation of Indonesian fashion designers so that they possess not only creative capability, but also the confidence to take their place on the world stage, the opportunity to present in Hong Kong is an essential experience for students to realize that the work produced during their studies on campus has a real place in the global fashion industry," Ratna said in Jakarta on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
She emphasized that fashion education extends beyond classroom garment construction to international audience engagement.
"Fashion education does not end when a garment is completed; it continues when students can bring their ideas, cultural identity, and creativity to be recognized internationally, this global experience allows students to test their design concepts in a diverse environment and understand how local identity can be translated through contemporary fashion," Ratna added.
