RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - Bandung is promoting safer and more inclusive road infrastructure for cyclists, pedestrians, motorists, and people with disabilities. The initiative was highlighted during the Gerakan Nyapedah Nyakola cycling event in Bandung on Saturday, 5 September 2026.

The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, said road infrastructure should serve people with different mobility needs. He stressed that public roads should provide safe access beyond basic facilities for motor vehicles.

“Roads in Bandung provide convenience for motor vehicles, but that is basic. Roads must then be friendly to cyclists and pedestrians. The highest priority is people with disabilities,” Farhan said.

Farhan said the Bandung Government remains open to public feedback about urban facilities and services. He encouraged communities to continue raising concerns and sharing suggestions based on their experiences using public roads.

“Keep voicing concerns and maintain safety,” Farhan added.

The city is also preparing to host the National Folding Bicycle Gathering in December 2026. The event is expected to bring folding bicycle communities from across Indonesia to Bandung.

Cycling communities said safer infrastructure remains important as cyclists face traffic congestion and bicycle lanes being used for parking. These challenges highlight the need for better road management and greater awareness among all road users.

The Gerakan Nyapedah Nyakola program is planned to take place monthly on Saturdays. Its activities will include cycling, road safety education, and bicycle maintenance sessions.

The initiative is expected to encourage cycling while strengthening the focus on safety and accessibility across Bandung's urban transportation network.
