RRI.CO.ID, Surabaya - Surabaya is breathing new life into the former Hi Tech Mall, now transformed into the Surabaya Expo Center (Subec), envisioned as a new hub for youth and creative communities to drive the city’s cultural economy.

Head of Surabaya’s Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism Agency, Herry Purwadi, said on Thursday, July 9, 2026, that the city administration is inviting young people and community groups to make full use of the facilities provided.

“This area is coming alive again as a center of creative activity in the City of Heroes,” he noted, as quoted by Antara.

The Subec Creative Hub is designed to foster collaboration, talent development, and innovation, strengthening Surabaya’s position as a creative city in Indonesia.

Facilities include cultural studios, art exhibition spaces, food and beverage areas, an automotive club zone, and rooms for hobby groups and other creative activities.

Herry emphasized that the revitalization aims to reanimate the former Hi Tech Mall through community-driven initiatives. Ongoing improvements are being made to ensure the space meets diverse needs.

“We hope more communities will join and occupy the tenants provided at the site,” he said.

The center is also projected to become a platform for creative industry growth and a meeting point for cross-sector communities, positioning Surabaya as a dynamic hub for innovation and cultural exchange. ***
