RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s creative economy is gaining momentum on the global stage, with streaming platforms providing wider access for local musicians to reach international audiences. Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya highlighted the role of inclusive and transparent platforms in expanding opportunities for Indonesian talent.

“Music is not only entertainment but also a way to introduce Indonesia’s stories, culture, and identity to the world. When Indonesian songs are played in Malaysia, the United States, and other countries, that is the power of the creative economy in extending Indonesia’s influence globally,” Minister Riefky said on Saturday, June 27, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that streaming services have broadened access to the music industry, giving musicians from diverse regions equal opportunities to be recognized. “Collaboration between government, the creative industry, and creators is key to building a fair, sustainable music ecosystem that generates economic value for its players,” he added.

The creative economy currently employs 27.4 million workers, with more than half from Generation Z and millennials. This growth reflects strong confidence in Indonesia’s creative industries to create jobs, attract investment, and expand the country’s presence on global platforms.

“Collaboration and synergy between government and industry are crucial elements in building an adaptive, inclusive, and competitive music ecosystem," Minister Riefky emphasized the ministry’s vision to elevate local talent to compete regionally and internationally.

From the industry side, Director of Spotify Southeast Asia, Gustav Back shared impressive data. “Throughout 2025, Indonesian musicians’ works were discovered more than 6.3 billion times by new listeners on Spotify. Royalties earned by Indonesian musicians through the platform also increased by more than 16 percent compared to the previous year, with 60 percent coming from overseas listeners,” he noted.

Spotify’s data also showed strong domestic support, with 80 percent of songs in the ‘Spotify Indonesia Daily Top 50’ in 2025 produced by Indonesian musicians. “Indonesian music continues to show remarkable growth both from listeners at home and abroad, including in the United States, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, and the UK. Spotify is committed to creating opportunities for musicians to be discovered by new audiences and to build fan communities,” Gustav concluded.

This synergy between government and industry underscores Indonesia’s ambition to strengthen its creative economy and position local musicians as global cultural ambassadors. ***
