RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian cinema is making a significant splash on the global stage as two highly anticipated films represent the nation at the 45th Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF) in Minnesota, United States. Running from April 8 to 19, 2026, the festival serves as a prestigious platform for Indonesian storytellers to showcase their creative depth to North American audiences.

As reported by Antara, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Chicago officially announced the participation. They highlighted a lineup that features both avant-garde supernatural drama and a modern reimagining of a beloved classic.

Leading the charge is director Wregas Bhanuteja’s latest work, Para Perasuk (Levitating), produced by Rekata Studio. The film, which features a star-studded ensemble including Anggun, Angga Yunanda, Maudy Ayunda, Bryan Domani, and Chicco Kurniawan, explores the haunting narrative of a village where spirit possession is regarded as a source of collective satisfaction.

According to the Consulate’s official Instagram and the festival's schedule, Para Perasuk is slated for screenings on April 9 and 11, 2026. This selection underscores the growing international interest in Indonesia’s unique brand of psychological and cultural storytelling.

In addition to Bhanuteja’s work, the festival will feature Rangga & Cinta, a modern adaptation of the 2002 cultural phenomenon "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta." Directed by the acclaimed Riri Riza and produced by Miles Films, this 2025 production stars El Putra Sarira and Leya Princy in the roles originally made famous by Nicholas Saputra and Dian Sastrowardoyo.

The film has been selected for the festival’s "Asian Frontiers" program, with scheduled screenings on April 15 and 19, 2026. The production team shared via their social media handles that the film’s inclusion in this category highlights its relevance in the contemporary Asian cinematic landscape.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Chicago has expressed its full support for both Para Perasuk and Rangga & Cinta throughout the 12-day event. By backing these films, the Consulate aims to bolster Indonesia's cultural diplomacy and promote the country’s burgeoning film industry.

This dual appearance at MSPIFF celebrates the technical prowess of Indonesian directors. It also invites an international audience to engage with the diverse themes and evolving narratives of modern Indonesian life. ***
