RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf) has revealed the opportunity to develop the folk tale "Timun Mas" into intellectual property (IP).

Dadam Mahdar, Director of Fine and Performing Arts at the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency, said that the launch of the theme song "Timun Mas in Wonderland" demonstrates the potential for developing folk tales into intellectual property.

"For us at the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency, this initiative demonstrates how Indonesian folk tales can be developed into strong and sustainable IP, or intellectual property rights," he said at a press conference for the launch of the theme song for the film "Timun Mas in Wonderland" held in Jakarta on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He also said that integrating film, music, and performing arts into a single production ecosystem not only supports efforts to preserve cultural heritage but also encourages the growth of the creative industry.

According to him, the making of "Timun Mas in Wonderland," produced by Sinera Film, demonstrated a structured creative journey, from story development to music production.

The musical drama film was produced by writer Karisma Bestari and novelist Andrei Aksana, as well as child singers Karisma Bestari, Ariana Ivy Gunawan, Rafanda, Michelle Valerie Kee, Edena Amariah Aichta, Amaury Faiz, Charlotte Olivia Theodorus, Fayola Aretha Aritia, Jennifer Natasha, Michelle Gail, and Aisyah Zahira.

A total of 17 theme songs were presented to enrich the storyline of "Timun Mas in Wonderland," conveying messages of friendship, courage, togetherness, love of the homeland, and spiritual fortitude.

The theme songs, composed by Andrei Aksana, include "Jus Ketimun" (Karisma Bestari), "Welcome to Wonderland" (Ariana Ivy Gunawan), "Dunia Warna Warni" (Rafanda), and "Negeri Gemilang Kami Pulang" (Michelle Valerie Kee). Additionally, there are the songs "Tunjukkan pada Dunia" (Edena Amariah Aichta), "Seperti Bintang dan Rembulan" (Ariana Ivy Gunawan), "Mimpi yang Nyata" (Amaury Faiz), "Bintang Pertama" (Charlotte Olivia Theodorus), "Sang Pemenang" (Ariana Ivy Gunawan), and "How Do I Look" (Jennifer Natasha).

Other songs include "Friends Have Secrets" (Michelle Gail), "Dance With Me" (Charlotte Olivia Theodorus), "Buah Hati" (Ariana Ivy Gunawan), and "Atas SeizinMu Yaa Allah" (Aisyah Zahira).

On the same occasion, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said that the story of Timun Emas and other Indonesian stories are unique and rich in meaning. He expressed hope that the film "Timun Mas in Wonderland," which is currently in production, will inspire Indonesian children after its screening.

"Our stories are actually very rich, very numerous, because we are a megadiverse country, with 1,340 ethnic groups and 718 languages," he said.

"We have all kinds of cultural expressions from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island, and of course, these stories have their own unique characteristics, like Timun Mas," he added.

He also noted that the story and theme song of the Timun Mas film are closely linked to cultural objects. According to him, the theme is interesting because it's a folktale, and it is very closely linked to the object of cultural advancement.

"Culture isn't just art; it encompasses much more, including language, literature, traditional knowledge, rituals, manuscripts, customs, and much more, including, of course, art and all its subsectors," he explained.

In addition to being adapted into a film, he expressed hope that the Timun Mas folktale can be developed into Indonesian intellectual property (IP). The Minister also expressed his hope that the film and its theme song will receive a positive response from the Indonesian public and the global community.

"Hopefully, this work can contribute to the nation's economy and become an important milestone for cultural advancement. We're also looking forward to the film, and hopefully, the soundtrack will also receive a positive response from the public," he said. ***
