KBRN, Yogyakarta: The culturally rich and popular Wukirsari tourism village is located in Imogiri subdistrict, Bantul regency, Yogyakarta Special Region province.

The regency's official website wukirsari.bantulkab.go.id. mentions that Wukirsari Village is renowned for its friendly community and well-preserved cultural heritage, one of which is batik.

Visitors of Wukirsari have the opportunity to learn batik-making with local craftsmen at Batik Giriloyo, Karang Kulon, and Cengkehan.

The village has also introduced a new innovation for education tourism through a beverage product called Teh Gurah. This product is inspired by the traditional Gurah treatment, which involves dripping particular liquid (made from a local plant named srigunggu) into the nose to expel mucus.

Local craftsmen in Wukirsari also produce various artworks, from wood carvings, textile crafts, to wayang kulit (leather puppets).

Visitors can enjoy the picturesque green rice fields, lush hills, Imogiri reservoir, panoramic Goa Asu cave, Bukit Bego hill, and other attractions offered by the tourism village.

Activities like trekking and cycling can also be enjoyed while taking in the natural beauty.

Visitor facilities such as homestays, local eateries, an information center, and easy road access are readily available in Wukirsari.

Thanks to the rich cultural heritage and the community's efforts to preserve their culture and uniqueness, Wukirsari has been named as one of the 55 Best Tourism Villages in the World 2024 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). ***
