KBRN, Central Lombok: Penginang Lombok Art Shop in Sukarara Village, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, has been a favorite destination both for domestic and foreign tourists wanting to experience of being a local resident of Sasak Lombok Tribe.

The art shop provides visiting tourists with an experience of traveling or touring the area in which they can play as Sasak tribe members for a day.

They will join local people's activities starting from weaving, harvesting rice, drying grain to coming to orang begawe (party). While traveling around the village, tourists will receive explanation about, among other things, local agricultural system and customs.

“They will walk around for about 15-20 minutes, then join a cooking class to try to make traditional snack serabi (rice flour pancake),” the art shop's owner Mawardi said, Monday.

After that, they will wear Sasak traditional clothes and were photographed with the background of Sasak traditional houses.

Mawardi said his art shop sold various types of crafts. It accommodates local crafts products by making local craft producers and weavers as members of the Penginang Lombok art shop. The shop provides them with supervisions, yarns, and trainings, thus improving their prosperity.

“We also recruit the unemployed to work at the art shop," said Mawardi, adding that he currently had 15 employees working for the art shop.

He said his art shop also cooperated with travel agencies to boost sales. It sells complete collections of woven products from across West Nusa Tenggara as well and men's and women's clothing produced in collaboration with fashion designers to catch up with latest trends. ***
