10 Tourist Attractions Popular on National Heroes Holiday

KBRN, Jakarta: Every November 10, Indonesia commemorates the National Heroes Day through various activities, engaging both the government and the public in honoring the nation's heroes.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, for example, hosted several events including the National Pilgrimage Ceremony at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery, a sea flower-laying ceremony, and the National Hero Award Ceremony at the State Palace. Naval Chief of Staff Ahmad Muzani scattered flowers into the sea from a military ship.

Many people also visit historical places to remember the country's freedom fighters. Among the sites popular on National Heroes Day are listed below.

1. Majapahit Hotel

Did you know that Majapahit Hotel used to be called Yamato Hotel? This hotel was once the place where the Dutch flag was torn down by Arek-arek Suroboyo (the youths of Surabaya) September 19, 1945.

2. Surabaya Heroes Monument

This monument was built to commemorate the struggle of Arek-arek Suroboyo against the Allied Forces on November 10, 1945.

3. November 10 Museum

In this museum, visitors can learn about the history of the heroes' fights to defend Indonesia's independence.

4. Yogya Kembali Monument

This museum was built in 1985 to commemorate the withdrawal of the Dutch army from Yogyakarta on June 29, 1949.

5. Red Bridge

6. Palagan Ambarawa Monument

The Palagan Ambarawa Monument in Central Java has been a favorite destination. The monument was erected to commemorate the Battle of Ambarawa on October 20-December 15, 1945.

8. Pujaan Bangsa Margarana Park
