RRI.CO.ID, Gunungkidul: The ancient volcano of Nglanggeran offers tourists a unique natural attraction, especially during fruit season. The Nglanggeran mountain scenery, carved by the ancient volcano, is a feast for the eyes.
There is also a reservoir, completed in 2013, that covers an area of approximately 2,400 square meters. It serves as a water reservoir for irrigating the fruit orchards. Various fruit trees grow here, including durian, avocado, and longan.
Edy, a visitor from Klaten, came to Nglanggeran for the first time to look for durian. "This is my first time looking for durian here, and I'm curious why there's a reservoir on a mountain," he said.
Sudaryono, who came with his family from Srandakan in Bantul, echoed Edy's sentiments. This was his first time visiting the reservoir, and he was amazed by the beauty from above, which seemed close to the clouds with its expanse of verdant forest.
"Even though I'm from Yogyakarta, this is my first time here, and I'm curious about how there's a reservoir on a mountain," he said.
The Nglanggeran Reservoir can be reached by four-or two-wheeled vehicles. It's approximately 29 kilometers from downtown Yogyakarta (Kilometer Zero), and it takes one to one and a half hours to drive there, passing through Wonosari Street and continuing towards Patuk and Nglanggeran Village. The paved road is partly uphill and winding.
The entrance fee to the tourist area is IDR 10,000 per person and IDR 2,000 for parking two-wheeled vehicles. (Misni Parjiati)
