KBRN, Jakarta: Music holds a significant position in fostering the creative industry, serving as a crucial element not only in daily life but also as a key driver of Indonesia's creative economy.

YAMI (Indonesian Music Award Foundation) Chairman Candra Darusman, a senior musician and music producer, shared this perspective.

"Music is the pulse of life that continues to evolve through the creativity of the younger generation," Candra said in a conversation with Pro 3 RRI on Sunday, May 11, 2025, as quoted by rri.co.id.

Candra noted that Indonesian music is flourishing, largely due to the increasing accessibility of digital technology. He believes that the music industry's resilience stems from the ingenuity of young artists and the vast array of contemporary inspirations available.

"The current generation can draw inspiration for their music from a wealth of personal experiences – a kind of 'big data' of their own lives," he explained.

Candra emphasized the vital role played by the government in bolstering the national music sector. He asserted that relevant agencies must proactively address persistent challenges such as obtaining concert permits and combating piracy.

"The state must be present in law enforcement and streamline licensing for the music industry," said Candra.

Candra also disclosed that song royalties in Indonesia peaked in 2024. He believes this figure could rise further with a more equitable and efficient distribution system.

Additionally, he underscored the necessity for young musicians to incorporate social issues into their lyrics. Topics like the dangers of drugs and environmental concerns are deemed crucial for educating and raising public awareness. ***
