Indonesia, South Korea Discuss Intellectual Property Cooperation

RRI.CO.ID, Seoul – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, met with South Korean Minister of Intellectual Property Kim Yong-sun in Seoul, South Korea, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. He reported the meeting in a social media post on the same day.

"I am currently in Seoul, South Korea, where I held a bilateral meeting with South Korea’s Minister of Intellectual Property, Kim Yong-sun, to discuss intellectual property cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea," he said.

"I was accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea and two staff members from Jakarta, while the South Korean intellectual property minister was accompanied by two directors-general overseeing legal matters related to intellectual property," he said.

Yusril said the meeting discussed intellectual property cooperation between the two countries, particularly the enforcement of related laws, efforts to combat counterfeit goods, and measures to address trademark infringement. He also said Indonesia and South Korea have planned a 10-year intellectual property program.

"We consider this very important to strengthening intellectual property cooperation between the two countries, which have jointly planned a long-term program for the next 10 years, from 2026 to 2035, aimed at improving intellectual property laws and their implementation on the ground," he said.

In addition, Indonesia is currently studying the effectiveness of a specialized police unit in combating intellectual property violations in the digital sphere, similar to the approach taken by South Korea. Yusril expressed hope that the cooperation could continue to be strengthened to maintain good relations and economic cooperation between the two countries.

"And we hope this cooperation will continue to be strengthened for the sake of good relations and economic cooperation between the two countries," he said.
