Indonesia Prepares Evacuation Route for Indonesian Citizens from Mokha, Yemen

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Escalating armed conflict in Yemen's coastal region has led to tighter checkpoints and disruptions to logistics routes in the city of Mocha. In response to the situation, the Indonesian government is devising an evacuation plan to ensure the safety of dozens of Indonesian citizens (WNI) located in the conflict zone.
Director of WNI Protection at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Heni Hamidah, said a team from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Muscat has reached the city of Tarim and remains in contact with Indonesian nationals despite disruptions to logistics routes.
“The team from KBRI Muscat is already in Tarim, moving closer. We are in direct communication with them; they are safe, although logistics routes are disrupted,” said Heni on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The Indonesian Embassy in Muscat has also prepared two temporary shelters for Indonesian citizens who have successfully left Mokha. These locations are at Darul Hadis in Lahij and Markas Syr in Hadramaut.
“The first option is Darul Hadis in the Lahij area. The second is Markas Syr in Hadramaut, on the coast of the Arabian Sea,” she said.
Currently, 72 Indonesian citizens remain in Mokha after two others successfully left the area. Of those remaining, 67 are men, three are women, and two are children. “The main challenge now is mobility to get out of Mokha; every checkpoint has been tightened,” said Heni.
Five of the 72 Indonesians have indicated their willingness to return to Indonesia, and the Foreign Affairs Ministry will ensure their repatriation process is carried out. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
