BRIN and Rosatom Expand Nuclear Cooperation for Peaceful Purposes at IAEA

RRI. CO. ID, Vienna - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) reaffirmed its commitment to boosting international cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear technology. The commitment was conveyed by BRIN Head Arif Satria during a bilateral meeting with Kirill Komarov, First Deputy CEO of Rosatom for Development and International Business, on the sidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Austria.

In an official statement received on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the meeting served as a momentum for both sides to strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and Russia in the field of nuclear technology. Beyond deepening bilateral ties, the forum was also used to discuss opportunities for developing cooperation that could support the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology.

Arif added that partnerships with various strategic countries and institutions are expected to open opportunities for knowledge exchange, human resource capacity building, and the use of technology to support national development. “This meeting with Rosatom is certainly a continuation of our ongoing engagement, reflecting our commitment to further strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in the field of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes,” he said.

The meeting in Vienna was not the first of its kind. Throughout 2026, BRIN and Rosatom have held four meetings, reflecting the sustained intensity of communication between the two institutions.

Prior to the meeting in Vienna, the two sides met on April 8, 2026, at the Rosatom office in Moscow, then on May 12, 2026, at the State Palace in Jakarta, and on May 13, 2026, at the BRIN Thamrin office in Jakarta. This series of meetings reflects the seriousness of both institutions in following up on each cooperation agreement on an ongoing basis.

Through this series of meetings, BRIN and Rosatom continue to explore areas of collaboration that could benefit the development of science and technology. This cooperation is also expected to support the use of nuclear technology for national development and the improvement of public welfare in Indonesia.

By continuing to strengthen international partnerships, BRIN is committed to advancing the national research and innovation ecosystem while expanding access to strategic knowledge and technology.
