Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption Delays Sweden’s Crown Princess Agenda in Jakarta

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau has disrupted the visit agenda of Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria in Jakarta. Flight delays caused by volcanic ash have postponed her travel to the capital.

Crown Princess Victoria was scheduled to attend the Sweden–Indonesia Sustainability Partnership (SISP) Business Forum on Tuesday, 9 September 2026. However, she remains in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, together with Sweden’s Deputy Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Diana Janse.

Both are in Lombok to participate in a program organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Crown Princess Victoria had originally been expected to attend the opening and press conference of the SISP Business Forum at the Park Hyatt Jakarta.

“The Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta and Business Sweden regret to announce that Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Deputy Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Diana Janse, are unable to travel to Jakarta as planned," the Embassy stated in a written release received by RRI on Monday, 7 September 2026.

"This decision was made in light of ongoing flight disruptions following the recent volcanic eruption and the resulting ash cloud,” the statement continued.

Even so, the Embassy confirmed that the SISP program is not entirely canceled. Several sectoral sessions will continue as scheduled.

“These sessions will bring together businesses, institutions, and stakeholders from Sweden and Indonesia to sustain dialogue, exchange knowledge and experiences, build networks, and explore cooperation opportunities across priority sectors,” the Embassy noted.

The SISP serves as a platform to strengthen relations and cooperation between Sweden and Indonesia, covering areas such as economy, innovation, and sustainable development.

Key sectors of collaboration include innovation and technology, sustainability, energy, healthcare, and digital transformation. The involvement of businesses and institutions from both countries is expected to open new opportunities in trade, investment, and innovation.

The Embassy of Sweden and Business Sweden emphasized that the agenda changes do not affect the overall partnership between the two nations. Cooperation under the SISP framework will continue through dialogue, innovation, and sustained collaboration.

“The Embassy of Sweden and Business Sweden also extend their appreciation to all participants and partners for their understanding and flexibility in facing these unusual circumstances.
