Marines Sharpen Night Combat Skills at Super Garuda Shield 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Navy personnel joined marine forces from the United States, Japan, and South Korea in a night‑time shooting drill during the multinational Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026 exercise at Marine Infantry Battalion 9, Teluk Pandan, Lampung, on Thursday, September 4.

According to a press release from TNI Headquarters, the joint training aimed to strengthen infiltration capabilities and prepare troops for nocturnal combat operations. Soldiers were tested on the use of Night Vision Goggles (NVG), disciplined light management, and precision targeting in darkness.

Beyond marksmanship, participants were required to master terrain navigation at night to ensure tactical movement. The exercises concluded smoothly without incident, reinforcing both combat readiness and camaraderie among the marine corps of participating nations.

SGS 2026 involves 4,743 personnel from 21 countries, including Indonesia, the United States, Australia, Japan, Germany, South Korea, and others.

The annual exercise, held from August 31 to September 11 across multiple Indonesian locations, covers 12 training modules ranging from cyber defense to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

TNI Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto emphasized that the drills serve dual purposes: enhancing operational interoperability and advancing defense diplomacy.

“Super Garuda Shield is conducted every year in Indonesia, with 21 nations participating this time. The training includes cyber warfare and disaster response, reflecting evolving security challenges,” he said, as quoted by Antara. ***
