TNI and US Army Stage Air Assault Drill at Super Garuda Shield 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Lampung - The Indonesian Military (TNI) and the US Army showcased joint air assault capabilities during the multinational Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026, parachuting into designated targets in Lampung as part of a free‑fall exercise.

Held at Gatot Subroto Air Base on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the drill involved 13 elite personnel from TNI’s Kopassus, Taifib, and Korpasgat units alongside US counterparts. After landing, troops simulated sabotage operations against enemy positions.

TNI spokesperson Maj. Gen. Muhammad Nas said the exercise aimed to sharpen combat readiness while reinforcing defense diplomacy. “This reflects TNI’s commitment to multinational military cooperation and regional stability,” he noted, as quoted by Antara.

SGS 2026 brings together 4,743 personnel from 21 countries, including Indonesia, the United States, Australia, Japan, Germany, South Korea, and others.

The annual exercise, running August 31 to September 11 across multiple Indonesian locations, covers 12 training modules ranging from cyber defense to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

TNI Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto emphasized the dual purpose of the drills: strengthening interoperability and advancing defense diplomacy. He highlighted the inclusion of cyber warfare training--critical for TNI’s newly established cyber unit--and disaster response operations in North Kalimantan.
