Indonesian Diaspora in Egypt Promotes Unity Through 'Gotong Royong'

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A community initiative in Cairo has brought Indonesian and Egyptian youth together in a spirit of gotong royong to strengthen cultural ties and strategic cooperation.

The event, held at Al‑Azhar University’s Darrasa Campus on Sunday, August 30, marked Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.

Organized by the Indonesian Diaspora Network in Egypt (IDN Egypt) and the Egyptian Youth Council, the program carried the theme “Together in Action, United in Collaboration.”

IDN Egypt President Ardiyansyah said the activity reflects hopes for deeper cooperation between the two nations that benefits the Indonesian diaspora.

Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Kuncoro Giri Waseso, Al‑Azhar’s Dean of Arabic Language Faculty Alaa Ganeb, and Egyptian Youth Council Chairman Mohamed Mamdouh attended the event.

Ambassador Kuncoro praised the initiative as a contribution to cultural diplomacy and a showcase of Indonesia’s tradition of mutual cooperation.

Alaa Ganeb welcomed the collaboration, affirming Al‑Azhar’s openness to constructive partnerships in the future. The program concluded with a symbolic palm tree planting by Ambassador Kuncoro, followed by a joint clean‑up of the university grounds.

The gathering underscored the enduring role of Indonesian students and diaspora in fostering friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and Egypt, rooted in shared history and solidarity. ***
