Indonesia, US Strengthen Ties through Ksatria Warrior 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – United States Army troops and personnel from the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) concluded the 2026 Ksatria Warrior Exercise in South Sumatra on August 28, 2026. Held from August 15 to 28, the exercise combined humanitarian assistance, civil construction, and military training to strengthen interoperability and the readiness of both countries.

“The activity served as an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the United States and Indonesia to strengthening defense cooperation, interoperability, and regional security,” the US Department of Defense said, as quoted from the official website of the US Embassy in Jakarta on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Before the main exercise began, troops from the US Army’s 215th Engineer Vertical Construction Company conducted an Engineer Civic Action Project (ENCAP) from August 11 to 19.

As part of the project, US military personnel worked alongside TNI AD personnel to repair school facilities in the local area, helping build stronger ties with local communities while supporting humanitarian and civil development programs.

“This is not just a regular military exercise. We can see the results firsthand, how the school was built through our hard work and partnership with the TNI,” said US Army National Guard Captain David Carrion, who was assigned to the 215th Engineer Vertical Construction Company.

Meanwhile, US Army Reserve Major Luis Sanchez said the 2026 Ksatria Warrior Exercise provided an important opportunity to strengthen a defense partnership considered strategic in addressing future security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

He said the ability of US forces to work alongside partner forces was essential in responding to various threats in the region.

“Continuing our partnership with the TNI AD and Indonesian soldiers, as well as all of our partners here, will support the development, growth, and interoperability that we seek to achieve together through this exercise,” he said.

In addition to humanitarian and civil construction activities, the exercise also enhanced operational capabilities through the Staff Exercise (STAFFEX).

During the exercise, battalion staff completed the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP), developed operational plans, and issued orders to companies under their command in preparation for the next phase, a company-level field exercise.

The 2026 Ksatria Warrior Exercise is part of efforts to strengthen US-Indonesia defense cooperation by building trust, enhancing interoperability, and improving the operational readiness of both countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
