Indonesia-Japan Partnership Expands Through Technical Internship Cooperation

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen its human capital are taking shape through a new partnership with Japan’s Yamaguchi Prefecture, focusing on technical internship programs that prepare Indonesian workers for global competitiveness.

The Ministry of Manpower Secretary-General Cris Kuntadi announced on Friday, August 28, 2026, that the collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), aimed at enhancing the placement and protection of Indonesian technical interns in Japan.

“This signing marks an important momentum to reinforce Indonesia–Japan cooperation, particularly in human resource development and technical internships,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Beyond sending interns, the agreement emphasizes career development support, exchange of information, and mechanisms to address challenges faced by participants.

The program is expected to help interns gain valuable exposure to Japan’s advanced technology, productivity culture, and workplace practices, while preparing them to apply these skills upon returning home.

The MoC will align with Japan’s upcoming Employment for Skill Development Program (ESDP), ensuring adaptability to evolving labor policies. Cris noted that Indonesia is committed to preparing its workforce with language proficiency, technical skills, and cultural understanding to meet Japan’s needs.

Indonesia also expects Yamaguchi Prefecture to provide a safe and supportive environment for its interns, fostering both professional growth and social well-being.

“We hope this MoC will soon translate into concrete, measurable programs that benefit participants, companies, and communities in both countries,” Cris said. ***
