Indonesia-Yamaguchi Prefecture Expands Technical Internship Cooperation

RRI.CO.ID, Japan - Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower boosts cooperation with the Government of Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to increase the dispatch and acceptance of Indonesian technical internship participants.

The MoC was signed in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, focusing on strengthening human resource capacity and protecting Indonesian technical interns during their stay in Japan.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower, Cris Kuntadi, said the cooperation includes strengthening information exchange, addressing issues, and protecting participants throughout the program. The information-sharing mechanism is also expected to support participants’ career development and independence after returning to Indonesia.

“The signing is an important momentum to strengthen Indonesia-Japan cooperation, particularly in human resource development and technical internships. Japan has valuable experience, technology, and a culture of productivity, while Indonesia has a pool of potential human resources ready to contribute,” Cris said.

He explained that the implementation of the MoC would be aligned with developments in Japan’s labor policies, including the Employment for Skill Development (ESDP) policy, which will replace the previous internship scheme.

Under the cooperation, the Indonesian government is committed to preparing participants with the technical skills, language proficiency, work ethic, and understanding of Japanese workplace culture needed to meet the country’s employment requirements. The government also hopes Yamaguchi Prefecture will continue to support a safe and conducive working and social environment for Indonesian participants.

“The signing of the MoC with the Government of Yamaguchi Prefecture is a first step toward more concrete implementation in strengthening Indonesian human resources through the Technical Intern Training Program. We hope this MoC will soon be translated into concrete and measurable programs that provide tangible benefits for participants, companies, and communities in both countries,” Cris said.
