RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Indonesia on August 21–22, 2026, marking a pivotal moment in bilateral ties as both nations launch new high‑level mechanisms to deepen cooperation.

The visit includes two major agendas: the first Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) between the foreign ministers of China and Indonesia, and the second 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue involving both countries’ foreign and defense ministers.

Wang Yi will co‑chair the CSD, while joining Defense Minister Dong Jun in the 2+2 talks with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the meetings reflect efforts by Beijing and Jakarta to strengthen strategic communication and expand cooperation. The CSD, established during Sugiono’s visit to Beijing in April 2025, is designed to evaluate progress and set future priorities in the partnership.

The 2+2 dialogue, first held in Beijing in April 2025, will continue discussions on political, defense, and security cooperation, alongside regional and global developments. Both forums highlight the growing depth of the Indonesia–China comprehensive strategic partnership, spanning five pillars: economy, people‑to‑people ties, maritime cooperation, politics, and security.

Agreements under discussion include enhanced law enforcement collaboration, intelligence sharing, and joint efforts against transnational crime, cyber threats, and extremism.

The two sides also plan to establish new consultations on disarmament and arms control, while boosting maritime cooperation through closer coordination between Indonesia’s Bakamla and the China Coast Guard.

By hosting these back‑to‑back forums, Jakarta and Beijing aim to reinforce strategic trust and chart new directions for cooperation across politics, defense, security, economy, and maritime affairs amid shifting regional geopolitics. ***
