RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Deputy Minister for Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI), Christina Aryani, has emphasized the importance of improving assistance in verifying and legalizing placement documents, particularly for Indonesian seafarers bound for China.
Speaking after a virtual meeting with Indonesian Consul General in Shanghai, Berlianto Pandapotan Hasundungan, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Christina highlighted the need for clearer procedures to ensure placements run smoothly and in compliance with regulations.
“This is important to guarantee that migrant worker placements proceed according to the rules while providing certainty for all parties,” she said in a statement on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Christina called on her team to prepare a standardized process for document legalization, which would serve as a guide for the Consulate General in Shanghai in assisting both migrant workers and stakeholders.
“This step is part of the government’s effort to ensure that placements, especially for seafarers, are orderly, safe, and aligned with the requirements of the destination country,” she explained.
She also urged the consulate to help map out policies and requirements for skilled workers in China, stressing that stronger coordination with Indonesian representatives abroad is essential.
“Enhanced coordination is needed so that challenges in the placement process can be quickly identified and resolved, while prioritizing protection for Indonesian migrant workers,” Christina concluded.
Beyond administrative improvements, the meeting also explored opportunities for placing skilled workers in China, which could be integrated with the Indonesian Vocational Senior High School (SMK) Go Global program. ***
