RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis star Aldila Sutjiadi made history by becoming the first from her country to win a women’s doubles title at a top‑tier tournament, clinching the crown at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open in Washington, D.C.

According to a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Washington on Tuesday, Sutjiadi and her New Zealand partner Erin Routliffe defeated Andreja Klepac of Slovenia and Miyu Kato of Japan 6‑4, 6‑1 in the final on Saturday, August 1.

The victory marked Aldila as the first Indonesian to win a title at one of the world’s elite tennis tournaments.

Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Indroyono Soesilo praised the achievement, calling it proof that Indonesian athletes can compete and triumph on the global stage.

“This is a proud moment and clear evidence that Indonesian athletes are capable of winning titles in world tennis,” Indroyono said, as quotwd by Antara.

He added that he hopes the success will inspire Aldika to aim for further milestones, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Currently ranked No. 27 in women’s doubles, Aldila competed under the guidance of coach Christopher Rungkat, a former Indonesian national player.

The Mubadala DC Open, staged at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center, is the only combined ATP 500 and WTA 500 event in the world, with a storied history dating back to 1969.

Aldila and Routliffe entered the tournament as the second seeds, while fellow Indonesian Janice Tjen also competed in singles and doubles, ranked No. 39 globally.
