RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - In a show of growing maritime cooperation, the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has completed joint exercises with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) under the Cassowary Exercise 2026, held in Australia from July 27 to 31.

The drill underscored both nations’ commitment to strengthening regional security and sharpening naval readiness. The Indonesian contingent, led by Colonel Ferry H. Hutagaol as commander of the Cassowary Exercise‑26 task force, consisted of 15 personnel.

According to Head of the Navy’s Information Service, First Admiral Tunggul, the training focused on Minor War Vessel (MWV) operations and maritime law enforcement--skills vital for patrol missions and small‑ship engagements.

“These exercises are designed to enhance our personnel’s ability to conduct operations with smaller vessels and enforce maritime law during patrols,” Tunggul said, as quoted by Antara.

He added that all activities ran smoothly and safely, adhering to international safety standards.

Beyond tactical training, the exercise carried broader significance. Tunggul emphasized that participation not only improves the Navy’s operational capabilities but also strengthens Indonesia’s defense ties with Australia.

“Our personnel are expected to be better prepared for evolving strategic challenges and more capable of supporting maritime security,” he said.

The Cassowary Exercise reflects Indonesia’s ongoing effort to deepen defense partnerships in the Indo‑Pacific. By combining practical training with diplomatic engagement, the drill highlights how cooperation at sea can reinforce trust and readiness between neighboring nations. ***
