RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Strengthening educational ties between Indonesia and Morocco is creating new opportunities for pursuing higher studies abroad, as Morocco is offering around 50 scholarships for Indonesian students, with the possibility of increasing the quota if needed.

“We are providing about 50 scholarships for Indonesian students," Moroccan Ambassador to Indonesia Redouane Houssaini announced during a meeting with Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, as quoted on the ministry's official website.

"I believe the Ministry of Islamic Affairs is willing to expand the number if required. I am committed to conveying Indonesia’s position to my government and following up with the authorities,” he added.

Indonesia previously sent 30 students to Morocco under a visiting student program, but this year the initiative could not continue due to additional requirements.

Minister Nasaruddin expressed hope that access to Moroccan universities will be simplified, allowing more Indonesians to study not only Islamic disciplines but also technical and scientific fields.

Houssaini noted that Morocco’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs has responded positively to Indonesia’s concerns and is considering measures to ease requirements. One key issue is Arabic language proficiency.

To address this, Morocco is exploring the idea of sending Arabic instructors to Indonesia so students can undertake three‑ to six‑month language courses before departure. ***
