RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo – A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 4:35 p.m. local time. The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tokyo urges all Indonesian citizens in Japan to remain calm and exercise increased caution.

According to a written press release received on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, there have been no reports of fatalities among Indonesian citizens. Nevertheless, the Indonesian diplomatic mission continues to monitor the situation and urges citizens to follow official instructions from local authorities for everyone’s safety.

Taking personal safety precautions and regularly checking official updates are the top priorities emphasized by Coordinator of Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Muhammad Al Aula. Indonesian citizens are asked to prioritize their personal safety and that of their families during this emergency.

“To all Indonesian citizens in Kumamoto Prefecture, please remain calm and vigilant. Prioritize your safety and that of your family, and continue to monitor official updates on the situation through the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the Japanese government,” Aula said.

Indonesian citizens in the affected areas are urged to stay alert and follow official evacuation instructions from local authorities. Additionally, Aula reminded citizens to ensure their communication devices remain charged so that emergency coordination can continue smoothly.

“Follow guidance and instructions from local authorities regarding evacuation procedures and other safety measures. Make sure your cell phone remains active and conserve battery power so you can be reached for emergency coordination,” he said.

To monitor conditions on the ground, Indonesian representatives in Japan continue to maintain active communication with the local Indonesian community and coordinate directly with authorities. This step ensures that emergency responses can be carried out quickly if any Indonesian citizens need help.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo continues to monitor the condition of affected Indonesian citizens by collaborating and communicating with the entire Indonesian community in Kumamoto and surrounding areas. Coordination with relevant Japanese authorities, particularly in Kumamoto Prefecture, is also ongoing,” he added.
