Indonesians in Japan Urged to Stay Vigilant After Kumamoto Earthquake

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has urged all Indonesian citizens in Japan to remain calm and vigilant following a magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Coordinator for Information and Socio-Cultural Affairs at the Embassy, Muhammad Al Aula, said there have been no reports of Indonesian casualties. The Embassy continues to monitor developments in the affected areas.
“Prioritize the safety of yourself and your family. Follow official updates from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA),” he advised. “Comply with instructions from local authorities, including evacuation and safety measures," he added.
Al Aula also reminded Indonesians to keep their mobile phones active during the emergency and conserve battery power to maintain communication.
He noted that the Embassy is coordinating closely with Indonesian communities in Kumamoto and surrounding areas, as well as with Japanese authorities, to track the situation.
“The Embassy in Tokyo is working with Indonesian communities in Kumamoto and nearby regions, while maintaining communication with Japanese authorities, particularly in Kumamoto Prefecture,” he said.
Both the Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate General in Osaka will continue to monitor post-quake developments. Indonesians affected are urged to immediately contact the Embassy’s hotline in Tokyo or the Consulate General in Osaka. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
