RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), expressed appreciation for the Norwegian Government's support for Indonesia's efforts to curb deforestation and preserve its forests. The House said the support reflects international recognition of Indonesia's success in reducing deforestation over the past decade while boosting bilateral cooperation on climate and forestry.

Chairperson of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Siti Hediati Soeharto, made the statement after receiving a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Indonesia, Rut Krüger Giverin in Jakarta, on Monday, July 27, 2026.

During the meeting, the Norwegian Ambassador commended Indonesia's achievement in significantly reducing deforestation since 2015. According to her, this accomplishment demonstrates Indonesia's strong commitment to protecting its forests and contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.

"Today, we received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of Norway to Indonesia, who will soon conclude her diplomatic assignment in Indonesia. She conveyed her appreciation for Indonesia's success in reducing deforestation since 2015," she said.

In addition, she explained that Norway's appreciation was reflected in its financial support of USD 216 million to Indonesia, recognizing the country's achievements in reducing emissions from the forestry sector.

"Norway highly appreciates these achievements, and Indonesia has received assistance amounting to USD 216 million from the Norwegian Government. We sincerely thank Norway for this support," she said as quoted by dpr.go.id.

Titiek underscored that Indonesia's success in reducing deforestation must be sustained through responsible and sustainable forest management. She noted that Indonesia bears a significant responsibility in conserving its forests, as it is home to one of the largest tropical forest areas in the world.

"We hope that we can continue preventing deforestation from recurring and further reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is important because Indonesia is one of the lungs of the world," she said..

She also underscored the importance of preventing future forest fires and illegal deforestation, both of which threaten environmental sustainability and contribute to increased greenhouse gas emissions. She therefore called for stronger collaboration among the government, parliament, and international partners to ensure that forest conservation efforts remain consistent and effective.

According to her, the longstanding partnership between Indonesia and Norway demonstrates the vital role of international cooperation in advancing environmental conservation and sustainable development. She expressed hope that bilateral cooperation on climate and forestry would continue to grow and deliver tangible benefits for the protection of Indonesia's forests.

"We would like to express our gratitude for the support provided by the Norwegian Government. We hope that together we can continue safeguarding Indonesia's forests, prevent forest fires and deforestation, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the sake of environmental sustainability," she said.
