RRI.CO.ID. Jakarta: National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the National Police are ready to strengthen cooperation with the FBI. This was conveyed when receiving a visit from FBI Director, Kash Patel, at the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Thursday. According to the National Police Chief, crime is currently transnational and increasingly complex, so it requires stronger international cooperation.
The National Police Chief said the FBI is an important partner of the National Police. The existing good relationship must continue to be maintained so that both institutions can respond more quickly to transnational crimes. "I hope this visit will strengthen cooperation between the National Police and the FBI, especially in dealing with increasingly complex transnational crimes," said Sigit.
The cooperation between the National Police and the FBI has been ongoing since 2019 through a Letter of Intent that was extended until 2029. Through this collaboration, 286 National Police personnel have participated in training with the FBI. The National Police Chief appreciated the program because it helped improve the capabilities of National Police members to deal with modern crimes.
In the future, the National Police aims to expand training, especially for priority cases. The Indonesian National Police (Polri) is also ready to utilize JCLEC, an international training centre in Jakarta with participants from 101 countries, including the United States, as a platform for sharing law enforcement knowledge.
The Chief of Police also highlighted the rise in cybercrimes such as online fraud, phishing, ransomware, and cryptocurrency-related crime. In addition, he also noted terrorism via social media and human trafficking. The Indonesian National Police hopes that cooperation with the FBI can strengthen information exchange, financial tracking, and joint operations.
Responding to this, the FBI Director made a statement. "The FBI sees Indonesia as a strategic partner. We are ready to strengthen intelligence exchange, training, and joint operations to counter cybercrime, terrorism, and human trafficking. This cooperation is important to maintain the security of the people of the US and Indonesia," said Patel.
This visit is expected to expand cooperation between the Indonesian National Police and the FBI. The primary goal is to create security for the people of Indonesia and the world by jointly confronting various forms of modern crime.
