RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has underscored its commitment to strengthening defense ties with Russia as KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai (GNR) 332 docked in Vladivostok on Thursday, July 23, ahead of the bilateral “Exercise Orruda 2026".
The arrival of the frigate was marked by a formal welcome from senior Indonesian naval officers--Assistant for Operations to the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Yayan Sofiyan, and Assistant for Intelligence Rear Admiral Andy Kriswanto--alongside representatives of the Russian Federation Navy.
In a statement released Friday, July 24, Yayan emphasized that Indonesia’s participation reflects a long-standing diplomatic effort to deepen military cooperation with Moscow.
“The presence of KRI GNR-332 in Vladivostok for Orruda 2026 is part of Indonesia’s defense diplomacy, reinforcing ties with Russia that have been built over many years,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
This year’s exercise continues the collaboration established during a joint drill held in Indonesia two years ago. Yayan expressed hope that the training would not only strengthen bilateral relations but also enhance the capabilities of both navies’ maritime defense systems.
The program includes a series of advanced operations:
- Maritime Interdiction Operation (MIO): enforcing law at sea and intercepting vessels.
- Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) drills: tactics against drone-based or unmanned naval threats.
- Search and Rescue (SAR): coordinated sea rescue missions.
- Medical Evacuation (Medevac): emergency procedures for evacuating personnel.
