RRI.CO.ID, New York – Indonesia has officially begun its six-year term as a member of the United Nations Board of Auditors (UNBoA) for the 2026–2032 period through the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), the country's Supreme Audit Institution (SAI), contributing to stronger accountability, transparency, and governance within the United Nations (UN). The handover ceremony took place at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir accompanied Chair of the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) Isma Yatun in formally assuming the mandate.

The UNBoA consists of three Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) responsible for conducting external audits of the financial statements and performance of various UN entities, while providing recommendations to the UN General Assembly to strengthen the organization's accountability and effectiveness.

Indonesia was elected by acclamation to the UNBoA during the Main Session of the Fifth Committee of the UN General Assembly on November 7, 2025, for a six-year term running from July 2026 to June 2032.

As part of the Board, the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) succeeds the China National Audit Office as Asia's representative and will work alongside the Supreme Audit Institutions of France and Brazil in auditing UN bodies.

Chair of the Audit Board of Indonesia Isma Yatun said Indonesia's membership in the UNBoA reflects international recognition of the institution's capacity and credibility as a Supreme Audit Institution that meets international standards, while providing an opportunity to contribute to strengthening global accountability.

She also expressed appreciation to fellow UNBoA members for their support throughout the transition process and stressed the importance of maintaining the independence, continuity, and quality of audits to deliver added value for the United Nations and all its member states.

Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said the Audit Board of Indonesia's mandate on the UNBoA is in line with Indonesia's commitment to advancing UN governance reform together with other UN member states.

According to Arrmanatha, since Indonesia's nomination process began in 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Audit Board of Indonesia have conducted intensive diplomatic efforts to secure the support of UN member states, culminating in Indonesia's election by acclamation in 2025.

He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Indonesia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, will continue supporting the Audit Board of Indonesia in carrying out its audit responsibilities within the UN system.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to strengthen inter-agency synergy and collaboration to reinforce and expand Indonesia's leadership and influence in various international forums," Arrmanatha said.
