RRI.CO.ID, Manila – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that the ASEAN-Russia partnership should be directed toward strengthening regional resilience through cooperation in the areas of energy, food security, and health. He made the remarks during the ASEAN-Russia Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) held in Manila, the Philippines, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
"Resilience is not only about responding to crises, but also about anticipating risks, adapting to change, and sustaining long-term peace," Sugiono said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
During the meeting, Sugiono highlighted the importance of building a stable, open, and resilient regional energy architecture. According to him, the ASEAN-Russia Energy Cooperation Programme 2026–2030 provides a strong foundation for enhancing long-term energy resilience across the region.
In addition to energy, Sugiono stressed that food security is a strategic priority in ASEAN-Russia cooperation. He noted that Russia, as one of the world's largest suppliers of wheat and fertilizers, plays an important role in helping secure food supplies for ASEAN countries.
"Access to these food resources is essential to maintaining agricultural production and food prices, while also improving access to nutritious food," he said.
Sugiono also underscored the importance of modern agricultural technology and climate-resilient farming in boosting productivity and strengthening long-term food security.
In the health sector, Indonesia called for enhanced capacity building and training exchanges for healthcare workers to improve the region's preparedness for future public health emergencies.
Concluding his remarks, Sugiono emphasized that ASEAN-Russia cooperation should continue to be guided by the principles of multilateralism and respect for international law.
"ASEAN Centrality must continue to serve as the compass for this partnership," Sugiono said.
