RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Sugiono, reaffirmed that Indonesia is urging the United States and Iran to continue honoring the peace Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Islamabad last month and to immediately cease hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Our position has not changed. We want the situation there to return to stability, for peace to be restored, and for the attacks to stop immediately," Sugiono said after the 6th Indonesia-Vietnam Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) Meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

He said that ending the conflict and restoring peace in the Gulf region are crucial, as developments in the area would have a direct impact on the lives of the Indonesian people.

"A peace MoU has already been signed, and we hope all parties will respect it. Whatever happens there will have a direct impact on our lives here," he said.

Despite agreeing to peace through the Islamabad Memorandum signed on June 17, the United States and Iran resumed exchanging attacks on July 7 following a dispute over commercial shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States launched strikes against several targets in Iran, while Tehran retaliated by attacking U.S. assets across the Gulf region.

Most recently, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) carried out another round of strikes on Monday, July 13, 2026, saying the operation was intended to weaken Iran's ability to disrupt international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the reinstatement of the "Iran blockade" policy and proposed imposing a 20 percent levy on cargo transiting the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for U.S. protection of the strategic waterway.
