RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s young innovators are making waves abroad. The student research team from state-run Islamic senior high school MAN 1 Medan clinched a gold medal at the Japan Design, Idea and Invention Expo (JDIE) INNOPA WIIPA 2026, held July 1–7 at Kansai Airport Conference Hall in Osaka, Japan.

The international event brought together inventors, researchers, academics, and industry players from across Asia, Europe, and North America to showcase cutting‑edge designs and innovations.

Represented by seven students and three mentors, MAN 1 Medan presented their project GREEN (Green Resource for Eco‑Friendly Engineering and Natural Construction). The innovation transforms discarded fruit peels from Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program into eco‑bricks and sustainable roofing tiles.

Judges praised the product’s durability, lightweight quality, water resistance, and environmental value. Beyond the competition, the team engaged in exhibitions, academic discussions, and exchanges with international delegates, strengthening global collaboration in creative research.

Principal Reza Faisal expressed pride in the achievement, calling it proof that Indonesian madrasah students can deliver world‑class innovation. “This gold medal is the result of hard work, discipline, and collaboration. It should inspire all students to keep researching and creating for society’s benefit,” he said, as quoted on the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs' official website.

The victory not only elevates MAN 1 Medan’s reputation but also underscores Indonesia’s growing presence in global innovation networks, reinforcing the role of education in nurturing competitive, creative talent. ***
