RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Efforts to nurture literacy and cultural identity among Indonesians abroad took center stage in Tokyo, where the Indonesian Embassy and Forum Lingkar Pena (FLP) Japan supported the launch of six books by Indonesian writers on Monday, June 6, 2026.

FLP Japan Chair Mursyida Nurfadhilla said the initiative reflects a belief in the power of literature to sustain Indonesian identity within the diaspora.

“Writing is not merely arranging words, but sowing character, conveying ideas, and preserving our Indonesian roots in Japan,” she noted at the event held at Sekolah Indonesia Tokyo, as reported by Antara.

She praised the authors for their dedication to maintaining Indonesian literary traditions overseas and expressed hope that their works would accompany Indonesians wherever they live.

The embassy’s Coordinator for Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs, Muhammad Al Aula, reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to supporting diaspora writing activities.

Citing the example of the late President BJ Habibie, he underscored the importance of reading and literacy as a manifestation of national intellect.

The embassy also highlighted its role in providing facilities, such as the Balai Budaya at Sekolah Indonesia Tokyo, to host the book launch; a gesture of collaboration in sustaining Indonesian literacy abroad.

The six titles introduced were Kumpulan Dongeng Fabel Pembangun Karakter, Antologi Memoar Kehidupan: Bertahan dan Bertumbuh, Jejak Terang di Ujung Malam, Sajak Putih Sang Penuntun, Surat-Surat yang Belum Usai, and Satu Nusa Beribu Rima.

To inspire younger generations, all books were formally handed over to the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and Sekolah Indonesia Tokyo, reinforcing the shared mission of promoting literacy and love of literature among Indonesian youth in Japan. ***
