RRI.CO.ID, Almaty – Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Anis Matta, paid a working visit to Kazakhstan from June 27 to July 1, 2026. During the visit, he held a series of meetings with Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Grand Mufti of Kazakhstan, the Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS).

“The meetings with Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev focused on strengthening bilateral relations, including political, economic, socio-cultural cooperation, as well as exchanging views on regional developments,” Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 1 , 2026, received in Jakarta.

During the meetings, special attention was given to opportunities for enhancing economic relations, including discussions on trade routes and corridors between Indonesia and Kazakhstan. Both sides agreed that improved trade connectivity is a key factor in boosting the flow of goods, investment, and broader economic interaction.

Anis Matta emphasized the importance of adopting a complementary approach to the economic relationship between the two countries. According to him, economic cooperation should not only focus on increasing overall trade volume but should also be based on identifying sectors where both countries can complement each other and create added value.

Trade between the two countries is also expected to receive a significant boost once all member states of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia–EAEU FTA) complete the ratification process of the agreement signed in December 2025. In addition, efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties continue through discussions on visa facilitation, direct flights between Indonesia and Kazakhstan, and collaboration in the creative industries.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional developments and emphasized the importance of resolving issues through intensive dialogue.

Separately, Anis Matta met with the Grand Mufti of Kazakhstan, Nauryzbai Kazhy Taganuly, in Almaty. The meeting discussed cooperation on halal certification as a means of strengthening economic relations between the two countries.

The Indonesian deputy foreign minister also met with CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay and IOFS Director General Berik Aryn to discuss global food security and the important role of Indonesia–Kazakhstan cooperation in promoting global peace and stability.
