RRI.CO.ID, Zug - Indonesia has offered significant opportunities for Swiss digital companies to expand cooperation in the digital economy sector.

As the largest market in ASEAN and the world’s fourth-largest digital market, Indonesia is seen as offering strong potential that can be combined with Swiss technological innovation.

The opportunity was highlighted during the Indonesia-Swiss Business Forum Series 2026 on the Digital Economy, organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Bern, Zug, Switzerland, on June 25, 2026.

The forum brought together business leaders, experts, and policymakers to discuss opportunities for collaboration in digital infrastructure, fintech, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Ngurah Swajaya, said Zug was chosen as the venue because it is Europe’s largest crypto and blockchain hub.

“This event brings together the complementary digital strengths of both countries and is being held in the largest crypto and blockchain center in Europe, located in the Canton of Zug, Switzerland,” Ambassador Ngurah said in a statement released on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

According to Ambassador Ngurah, the forum served as a platform to strengthen cooperation in the digital economy, which remains underdeveloped, and to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Switzerland.

The event was attended by CEOs of digital companies, investors, academics, and policymakers from both countries.

One of the key initiatives promoted during the forum was cooperation in digital talent development through Nongsa Digital Park in Batam. Chief Business Officer of Nongsa Digital Park, Marco Bardelli, said a Swiss-standard workforce would boost Swiss companies’ confidence in investing in Indonesia.

The forum also discussed the development of data centers, blockchain technology, and AI. Director of Economic Cooperation for the Canton of Zug, Silvia Thalmann-Gut, emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments, businesses, and research institutions in creating a favorable investment climate.

Meanwhile, Head of Bank Indonesia’s Representative Office in London, IGP Wira Kusuma, highlighted Indonesia’s strong economic fundamentals and the growth of its digital payment ecosystem, including the expansion of the QRIS payment system across Asia.

Speakers at the forum included representatives from Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Indonesian Blockchain Association, PT Blockspere Teknoniaga Indonesia, WGS Group, and Nongsa Digital Park. The event was also attended by Swiss technology, banking, and investment companies.

“The rapid growth of Indonesia’s digital economy presents opportunities for innovators from both countries to build strategic partnerships. Now is the right time for Swiss and Indonesian innovators to engage and collaborate,” Ambassador Ngurah said. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
