RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Russia is considering increasing the number of scholarships available to Indonesian students pursuing higher education in the country, reflecting the growing educational cooperation between the two nations.

Counselor at the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, Alexey Rykov, said all scholarship quotas for the 2026–2027 academic year had been fully utilized. Around 4,000 applicants competed for 300 scholarship slots.

“The strong interest from Indonesian students shows that educational ties between our two countries are developing rapidly. We are considering increasing the scholarship quota by around 50 to 100 Indonesian students annually in the coming years,” he said during a discussion titled Education as a Strategic Platform for Jakarta-Moscow Diplomacy at Atma Jaya University in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Rykov said the move would provide more opportunities for Indonesian youth to access quality higher education in Russia while strengthening people-to-people relations through annual student exchange programs.

In addition to scholarships, Russia is expanding university partnerships through memorandums of understanding. Several Russian universities also regularly participate in the Indonesia International Education and Training Expo and Conference.

The annual event is designed to showcase Indonesia’s leading educational programs. “We hope educational collaboration will produce highly skilled human resources that strengthen the strategic relationship between Russia and Indonesia in the future,” Rykov said.

Education remains a key pillar of bilateral relations between Russia and Indonesia. Both countries continue to enhance academic cooperation to support the development of science and technology among younger generations.

Head of the Education Department at the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, Valeriya Sharova, said her office is working to improve public access to information about Russian government scholarships.

“We continue to improve the dissemination of information regarding Russian Government scholarships. Russian House is the official scholarship operator, and people should obtain information directly from us,” she said.

Sharova added that Russian House remains open to anyone seeking guidance on studying in Russia. She noted that Indonesia has become one of the most promising education markets for Russian universities. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
