RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Boosting bilateral cooperation remains one of the Government’s priorities in expanding mutually beneficial strategic partnerships with various countries across different sectors. Within this bilateral framework, Russia has become one of Indonesia’s strategic partners and both countries have maintained diplomatic relations for seventy-six years.

As quoted by the Coordinating Ministry for Economy's press release, Indonesia and Russia have built a strong and comprehensive partnership covering political dialogue, economic cooperation, trade and investment, energy, defense, education, science and technology, and cultural exchanges. Economic relations between the two countries have continued showing positive development with bilateral trade reaching USD 5 billion in 2025.

In addition, the number of Russian tourist arrivals to Indonesia has continued increasing and has been supported by the opening of direct flights connecting Moscow and Denpasar. This development reflects growing connectivity and stronger people-to-people interactions between both countries.

“For more than seven decades, our partnership has continued growing based on mutual respect and shared interests. The strong foundation established by our predecessors has been preserved across generations of leadership and remains the basis guiding our cooperation today,” Coordinating Minister for Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, said while attending The Reception of The National Day of the Russian Federation on Monday, June 29, 2026.

He further explained that previous efforts to strengthen bilateral relations had also been carried out through a government visit to Kazan, Russia in May 2026. The visit was conducted to participate in the Fourteenth Session of the Indonesia–Russia Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation along with Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.

Both countries believe that strong institutional cooperation supported by active engagement between governments and business communities will continue becoming the foundation of Indonesia–Russia economic partnership. Looking forward, Indonesia and Russia are considered to possess significant cooperation potential to support Indonesia’s economic transformation agenda.

Priority sectors for future cooperation include industrial development, downstream industrialization, infrastructure construction, energy resilience, digital transformation, technological advancement, and sustainable development initiatives. Both countries also committed to continue exploring new cooperation opportunities to strengthen partnerships in economic and industrial sectors.

In addition, the signing of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement in December 2025 is viewed as an important milestone for expanding market access and facilitating trade. The agreement is also expected to encourage stronger engagement between business communities in Indonesia and member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, including Russia.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed the Indonesian Government’s appreciation for the opportunity granted to Indonesia to participate as a partner country at Russia’s inaugural leading industrial exhibition scheduled for next month. Participation in the event is expected to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders from both countries in trade development, science, value-added manufacturing industries, advanced industrial technology, automotive sectors, energy, and digital innovation.
