Indonesian Government and U.S. Air Force Discuss Cooperation and Security Issues

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Vice Minister of Defense, Donny Ermawan Taufanto, received a visit from the Commander of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), General Kevin Schneider, in Jakarta on Thursday, June 25, 2026. It was revealed in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense on the same day.

U.S. PACAF is a major command of the U.S. Air Force, and a part of the U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM). Headquartered in Hawai'i, the United States, the command is assigned in the Asia-Pacific region.

"The main agenda of the meeting focused on strengthening defense cooperation between Indonesia and the United States, particularly in the field of air defense, increasing personnel capacity, and regional security issues of mutual interest," the ministry said.

Vice Minister Donny and General Schneider discussed opportunities for cooperation in education and training and the exchange of strategic information. They also talked about enhancing operational synergy to support regional stability.

"On the occasion, Donny emphasized the importance of strengthening mutually beneficial defense relations through dialogue, the exchange of experience, and the enhancement of professionalism in both countries," the statement goes.

Ministry of Defense said the meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue strengthening defense cooperation. The two parties also agreed to maintain good communication to support regional peace and stability.

Indonesia and the U.S. have long had a deep military cooperation, commonly known by their joint exercises over the years. One of them is the Cope West training, an annual joint training between the Indonesian Air Force and the U.S. Air Force.
