RRI.CO.ID, London - The Indonesia's government is committed to building a credible, transparent, and highly integrated carbon market to support the mobilization of global climate finance. Indonesia's Forestry Minister, Raja Juli Antoni, made the commitment at the London Climate Action Week event themed "From Fragile to Financeable – De-risking Carbon Credit Markets" 2026 in London, England, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
On that occasion, Raja Juli Antoni, stated that the carbon market must be built on a foundation of integrity, transparency, regulatory certainty, and trust to attract large-scale climate investment. Based on this, he stated that Indonesia will launch the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) on July 9, 2026, as part of strengthening the governance of a more transparent, accountable, and integrated national carbon market.
Furthermore, as Minister of Forestry, he will issue approvals and facilitate the issuance of forestry carbon credits worth more than 30 million tons of CO₂e by July 6, 2026. This marks one of the greatest achievements in the development of the national forestry carbon market.
Concurrently with the launch, several Indonesian forestry carbon projects will also be registered under internationally recognized standards. This aims to emphasize Indonesia's readiness to manage the vast potential of nature-based solutions, from tropical forests and peatlands to mangroves, as well as explore future technologies such as biochar and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).
The Minister of Forestry called on the international community to undertake three collective actions to strengthen the global carbon market. These steps begin with sending a strong signal to the market about the importance of high-integrity carbon credits as a climate financing instrument.
Furthermore, the Indonesian government is encouraging corporations and global financial institutions to integrate quality carbon credits into their climate transition strategies and strengthen international cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Indonesia also expressed its readiness to collaborate with various global partners to create a larger, stronger, and more reliable global carbon market ecosystem.
