RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace and security by deepening cooperation with South Korea in counterterrorism efforts.
The partnership was highlighted during a bilateral meeting between the Indonesian National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) and South Korean National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) in Bogor, West Java, on June 18.
BNPT Chief Eddy Hartono emphasized the importance of the collaboration, noting that ties with South Korea have been strong and productive.
“Thank you for your visit and commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation with Indonesia,” he said on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The meeting included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BNPT and NCTC, aimed at enhancing coordination, knowledge-sharing, and expert exchanges in counterterrorism.
Eddy expressed hope that the agreement would quickly translate into concrete programs. “We expect this MoU to be followed up with adaptive and sustainable collaboration that strengthens both countries’ efforts,” he added.
NCTC Administrator Park Wonho underscored the global significance of the partnership. “Maintaining world peace cannot be done by one country alone, but must be achieved together,” he said. Park noted that while terrorism trends have declined, vigilance and cooperation remain essential, particularly through information-sharing and joint prevention strategies.
As part of the visit, Park and his delegation, including officials from the Korean Embassy, toured the Sentul Class IIB Special Prison and the Adhi Pradana National Counterterrorism Museum, reflecting the shared commitment to practical collaboration and public awareness.
The strengthened partnership between BNPT and NCTC highlights Indonesia’s role in advancing regional counterterrorism cooperation, positioning both nations as key actors in safeguarding peace and stability across East Asia and the wider Indo-Pacific. ***
