RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Germany are moving to expand cooperation on the placement of Indonesian migrant workers beyond the health sector, responding to Germany’s growing demand for skilled labor.
The issue was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI) Christina Aryani and Director General of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) International Services, Andrea von Rauch, at the P2MI Ministry's office in South Jakarta on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
Christina confirmed that the talks focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration in worker placement. Alongside evaluating the ongoing Triple Win Program, both sides explored opportunities to diversify placement sectors and identify new fields where Indonesian workers could contribute to Germany’s labor market.
She expressed appreciation for Germany’s partnership through the Triple Win Program, which has provided Indonesian healthcare professionals with safe, legal, and ethical pathways to employment.
“Diversifying placement sectors is crucial to open more opportunities for Indonesian migrant workers with skills and competencies aligned to international labor market needs, including Germany,” Christina said, as quoted by Antara.
The meeting also touched on potential GIZ involvement in SMK Go Global, a program designed to prepare vocational school graduates with skills tailored to overseas job requirements. Christina emphasized that international partners play a vital role in improving training quality, certification, and global connectivity.
Language proficiency remains a key challenge. Healthcare workers are required to reach German language level B2, while other sectors such as hospitality and services have more flexible requirements.
Christina noted that closer coordination is needed to identify sectors with the strongest prospects for near-term development.
“This meeting between P2MI Ministry and GIZ International Services marks an important first step in broadening Indonesia-Germany collaboration on skilled labor development, while opening more diverse placement opportunities for Indonesian migrant workers in the future,” she concluded. ***
