RRI.CO.ID, Medan - North Sumatra Muhammadiyah University (UMSU) is strengthening its international ties by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Malaysia, focusing on education, research, and community service advancement initiatives between the two institutions.

Signed on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at Kampung Gong Badak, Terengganu, by UMSU Rector Akrim and UniSZA Deputy Rector Fadzli bin Adam, the MoU aims to generate meaningful programs. “Both institutions hope this cooperation will lead to the development of various collaborative initiatives,” Akrim said, as quoted by Antara.

One of the key areas highlighted is Ilmu Falak (Islamic astronomy), a field of expertise shared by both universities. Akrim noted that the partnership should serve as a solid foundation to enhance higher education quality, expand international networks, and deliver academic and societal impact.

Fadzli bin Adam added that international conferences will be an important platform for exchanging ideas and experiences. “We will also organize an international conference on Ilmu Falak this year,” he announced.

Beyond academic collaboration, the agreement also covers leadership training for higher education institutions, as well as student and staff mobility programs aimed at improving human resource competencies.

This partnership reflects UMSU’s commitment to expanding its global reach and fostering innovation in education, while UniSZA brings its expertise to strengthen shared goals. Together, the two universities aim to build sustainable collaboration that benefits both academia and society.
